New Member: Blake Meyer
Blake Meyer is originally from Rochester, Minnesota, grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida, and Minnesota, and is now with the U. S. Air Force in the United Kingdom, where he lives with his kids, 12-year-old Leanne and his six-year-old Minnesota Twins, Rhys and Brody.

Blake has fond memories of going to Mets and Cardinals spring training games with his dad at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg. In 1980, he was a batboy for an Old-Timers Game and had the chance to chat with Minnie Minoso and play catch with Bob Feller and Ted Kluszewski as well as the reigning American League co-Rookies of the Year John Castino and Alfredo Griffin. “The lowlight,” he says, “was Joe DiMaggio refusing to sign a second autograph after I stood in line for over an hour after the game.” Blake moved back to Minnesota that year although he had been attending a number of Twins games during visits to the state.

His best memory of Met Stadium was at an Athletics-Twins game when he was 10 or 11 and his cousin jumped onto the field to get a foul ball. “When the ushers tried to throw us out, the fans raised such a stink that they let us stay. My cousin then went and had Charlie Finley sign the ball.”

Blake has a web site, TwinsCards.com, which started as a simple baseball card site that has become an all-encompassing site for Twins fans with history, statistics, and collectibles on display.

Blake shares his June 26 birthday with Willard Brown, Derek Jeter, Jason Kendall, Jeff Conine, Bill Robinson, Babe Herman, and Debs Garms as well as a number of people who had nothing to do with baseball: Greg LeMond, Colonel Tom Parker, Babe Didrickson Zaharias, Pearl Buck, Peter Lorre, Georgie Fame, and Abner Doubleday.

Deano Thilgen took over the chapter web site in 2001 and brought about a number of enhancements. The chapter appreciates Deano’s years of work on the web site and welcomes back John.

Breakfast Continues to Pack Them In

Submitted by Mark Johnson
On November 11th we enjoyed our 52nd bi-monthly Halsey Hall breakfast meeting at the normal Bakers Square location in Richfield. We had a table set for 12 and we squeezed in two more later arrivals. Once again, our amazing waitress, Ann Marie, took the orders without writing them down, a tremendous mental feat. Attendees included Rich Arpi, Stew Thornley, Brenda Himrich, Art Mugalian, Jack Stanton, Doug Skipper, Art Mugalian, Paul Rittenhouse, Jim Sexton, Fred Souba, Gary Hackenmueller, James Wyman, Ray Luurs, and Mark Johnson. A generous Jack Stanton delved out a few free baseball books. The next breakfast meeting is scheduled for 9:00 on Saturday, January 13th.
