Spring Chapter Meeting Set for May 13
The Spring Chapter Meeting will be held Saturday, May 13 and will include a group outing to the Twins-White Sox game that night. The meeting may be at Davanni’s pizza parlor in Golden Valley or Edina. Possibilities for featured guests include Dana Kiecker and Mike Kingery.

Members are invited to submit a proposal to make a research presentation. The proposal should be made in writing (e-mail is fine) to committee chair Stew Thornley, 1082 Lovell Avenue, Roseville, Minnesota 55113, stew@stewthornley.net, and should include a title and brief outline of what the presentation will consist of with emphasis on the research that will be included.

Standard presentations are 20 minutes (with an additional eight minutes for questions) although the duration may be longer or shorter depending on the needs of the presenter and of the schedule. Generally, up to five presentations may be accommodated, and these will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

The research committee (which also consists of Cary Smith, Tom Swift, Deano Thilgen, and Dan Levitt) will finalize the schedule of research presentations two weeks before the meeting, so proposals must be made by then.

Other Upcoming Events
The chapter’s Research Committee will be holding a Research Roundtable on Saturday, January 7 at 9:30 a.m. in the coffee-shop area at the Barnes & Noble in the Galleria in Edina. Members are invited to share and show research resources and discuss research issues.

The Hot Stove League get-together will be held Saturday night, January 14, beginning at 7:00 at Kevin Hennessy’s house, 608 Grand Avenue, St. Paul, Minnesota 55102-2610. It will be an informal evening of baseball talk. Refreshments will be served and donations accepted.

The next Hot Stove Saturday Morning breakfast gathering will be January 21 at 9:00 at Bakers Square, 66th and Xerxes in Richfield.

The chapter will have a table at TWins Fest at the Metrodome the weekend of January 27-29. Anyone interested in volunteering to staff the booth may contact Rich Arpi, 651-739-6986, rwaces@cs.com.

While in Roswell, New Mexico, your scribe and his travel companion went to the ballpark used by the Roswell Rockets when Joe Bauman hit 72 home runs for the Rockets in 1954, breaking the organized-baseball record of 69, held by Joe Hauser of Minneapolis and Bob Crues of Amarillo. Previously known as Fair Park Stadium, the ballpark is now Joe Bauman Stadium. It was at a ceremony last August to rename the stadium that Bauman fell and was injured. He was hospitalized and died five weeks later.
