New Members

A lifelong Cubs fan (who also became a Twins fan when he moved to Minnesota), Joe Towalski was raised on the northwest side of Chicago. He went to college in Wisconsin and graduate school in Minnesota. He met his wife, Dianne, in St. Cloud, where they live with their two children, Christian and Erin.

Joe is the director of communications for the Catholic Diocese of St. Cloud and editor of its newspaper, The Visitor. Dianne, who works with Joe, is a photographer. Christian was involved in the city league of Woodbury, where they lived for seven years. Even though they are now in St. Cloud, the family enjoys getting to Target Field to see the Twins whenever they can. Joe tries to attend games around the country when he travels and has been to Dodger Stadium, Angel Stadium of Anaheim, and PNC Park.

Joe’s mom and dad were also Cubs fans and took him to Wrigley Field, where he saw Mike Schmidt hit four home runs in a game in 1976. Joe once had the chance to interview Kirby Puckett for a story they ran in their paper (the photo of him was taken by Dianne).

Joe learned of SABR from the chapter’s Facebook page.

Born in 1968, Joe shares his August 2 birthday with fellow chapter member Paul Manocchio as well as Grady Sizemore, Red Ames, Bombo Rivera, Luke Hughes, Tom Burgmeier, Huston Street, Matt Guerrier, Tim Wakefield, Colby Lewis, John Kiernan, Myrna Loy, Carroll O’Connor, Martha Stewart, Lamar Hunt, and Dingdong Dantes.

Also new to SABR: Zack Siegel
