Joint Chapter Meeting October 20
The Halsey Hall Chapter’s joint meeting with the Field of Dreams Chapter of Iowa will be at the Music Man Centre in Mason City, Iowa, on Sunday, October 20, beginning at noon and wrapping up by 5:00. The program will include a display of Iowa and Minnesota baseball memorabilia, an open forum on how to do research, a joint business meeting, and a trivia quiz as well as:

For more details, including information on car pooling, contact Howard Luloff at 952-922-5036 or via e-mail at hfan77@webtv.net. (Pat Lewis is looking for riders on his jaunt from Bismarck, North Dakota, to Mason City. If you’d like to ride with Pat, contact him at 701-223-4201 or via e-mail at patlewis@tic.bisman.com.)

Directions to the Music Man Centre: From Minneapolis-St. Paul, take I-35 South (from Dallas-Fort Worth, take I-35 North), exit on Highway 122, just south of Clear Lake, and go east into downtown Mason City (about seven miles). Turn left on Pennsylvania Avenue, just past Hardee’s, and go north three blocks. The Music Man Square is on the left with a life-size sculpture of Meredith Willson in the courtyard. Park in the lot across the street, by the public library.

In Case You Were Wondering
Some members have inquired as to why they are receiving copies of USA Today Sports Weekly (formerly Baseball Weekly). This is a member benefit that SABR has negotiated with the USA Today. All SABR members are receiving a 26-week subscription to Sports Weekly. Those who already subscribe will have their subscriptions extended. The SABR office assures members that this will not generate any junk mail.

Anyone who does not wish to receive Sports Weekly may contact the SABR office at 800-969-7227 or via e-mail at info@sabr.org.

Vintage Loggers
The Minnesota Loggers—a conglomeration of players from the Quicksteps and St. Croix vintage base ball teams, including several who are Halsey Hall Chapter members—traveled to Columbus, Ohio, over Labor Day weekend for the Ohio Cup Vintage Base Ball Festival. The Loggers won two of the six games they played. Chapter members who made the trip were Don “Pieso” Hammer, Dan Cagley, Ray Luurs, Geoff Luurs, Deano Thilgen, and Rich Arpi.

The Quicksteps wrapped up their season September 15 in Eden Prairie with a loss to the St. Croixs, who were preparing for their season finale at the time of this printing.
