Deano Thilgen Named Webmaster
Deano Thilgen has taken over the chapter’s web site and will begin updating the pages on the site. His first act was to get us a more user-friendly address. Instead of relying on a sub-domain name, the URL for our chapter is now
http://halseyhall.org. Check it out.

At the fall Chapter Meeting, an amendment will be offered to the by-laws to include the webmaster along with publication editors as a position to be appointed by the board of directors to a one-year term (which is renewable) that begins on January 1. This is Section 4 of Article III of the by-laws. A two-thirds majority of those present and voting is required to amend the by-laws.

Dave Thies Set for Fall Meeting
Former Kansas City Athletics pitcher Dave Thies will be one of the featured guests at the Halsey Hall Chapter Meeting on Saturday, October 13 at the United Methodist Church in Columbia Heights. Former Senators/Twins outfielder Julio Becquer will also attend if he’s not in Cuba at the time.

Registration is $5 (includes food) and will begin at 8:30 a.m. The plan is for the meeting to last all day with the group watching the playoffs on television that night at the church (although the schedule may be altered if there is an afternoon playoff game involving the Twins). Anyone wishing to make a research presentation may contact Ray Luurs at 763-422-9699 or via e-mail at luurscjg@aol.com.

Hot Stove Saturday Morning
The next Hot Stove Saturday Morning will be October 6 at 8:30 a.m. at the usual location, Baker’s Square at 66th and Xerxes in Richfield.

Are You an Expert?
SABR member Nic Antoine has an experts section in his Legends of Sports web site. This is a place for folks who are experts on a particular area of sports to get their names out before researchers, authors, and the media. One of the experts on the list is Ron Henry, who holds claim to the first use of computers for baseball when, in 1955, he spent the summer calculating statistics for the Minneapolis Millers and busing them to the Minneapolis Star. To get your name on the list, contact Nic at Nantoine@gtw.net. You can view the current list of experts at http://www.thelegendsofsports.com/sports_experts.htm.

New Member: Pat Lewis
Pat Lewis is a native of Winona, Minnesota, who now lives in Bismarck, North Dakota. He’s retired from full-time work but is a sales associate at Wal-Mart. Pat describes himself as “a passionate fan. My parents loved the game and passed it on to me.” Pat followed the semi-pro Southern Minny League in the 1940s and 1950s and also became a Minneapolis Millers fan as well as a fan of the Millers’ parent club, the New York Giants. He is still a Giants fan as well as a Twins fan. His research interest is in learning more about independent leagues that flourished around World War II, especially in Minnesota. Pat and his wife, Kathryn, have a daughter, Jennifer.
