Book Club Meetings Up the Wazoo
The Halsey Hall Chapter Book Club will meet virtually Saturday, April 3 at 9:30 a.m. The book selection is Squeeze Play by Jane Leavy with special guest Jane Leavy. (Thanks to Art Mugalian for lining up Jane for this Zoom meeting.) Anyone wanting to attend may contact Stew Thornley. A link to the meeting will be sent to chapter members the night before.

In addition to the regular book club meeting, Bob Komoroski, Howard Luloff, and other chapter go-getters have arranged other book events, with authors, in April, twit:
- Jim Walker and Judith Hiltner, who are working on a biography of Red Barber, will be the guests at 7:00 p.m. in the evening Tuesday, April 6. Jim, a professor emeritus at St. Xavier University in Chicago, has also written Crack of the Bat: A History of Baseball on the Radio. Registration Link
- Lee Kluck, who is working on a biography of Harry Dalton, is the guest at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 19.

Spring Virtual Chapter Meeting May 8
The Halsey Hall Chapter spring meeting will be held on-line on Saturday, May 8 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. A link will be sent to all chapter members before the meeting. Members may begin gathering on the site at 9:00 to chat.
Three research presentations have been approved:
- Ed Wehling on baseball jerseys
- Joe Niese on Zack Wheat
- Hans Van Slooten: The First (Known) Computer Baseball Simulation
Joe presented on Burleigh Grimes and Andy Pafko at the Spring 2015 chapter meeting. Hans and Ed have not made research presentations at a chapter meeting.
The business meeting will include the election of four members to two-year terms on the board of directors. Any member interested in running may contact Dave Lande.
Other Events
The Research Committee will meet on Zoom April 5 and May 10 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Anyone wanting to participate may contact co-chairs Brenda Himrich or Stew Thornley, 651-415-0791.

The Fred Souba Hot Stove Saturday Morning, an informal breakfast gathering for the purpose of talking baseball, will be on hold for a while, either until it is safe to gather indoors again or nice enough to meet outdoors.

Zoom Events Draw Crowds
Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune gave SABR members a preview of the 2021 season in general and specifically about the Minnesota Twins on February 27. Sadly, the event organizer forgot to hit the record button so the presentation is lost to posterior.
Hank Aaron presentation March 4
Jason Schwartz, co-chair of the SABR Baseball Card Committee, presented Hank Aaron: More to the Story on March 4.
Jason showed the magazines Aaron has been featured in, ranging from HEP (above) to American Forests (below).

Dan Levitt will be will be discussing his forthcoming book, Balk! Baseballs Thin Line Between Innovation and Cheating, (co-authored with Mark Armour) with an emphasis on the Giants, to the New York Giants Preservation Society at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 20. Also on May 20, at 7 p.m., is a free Zoom meeting showing photos of past and present of Twin Cities baseball parks. To register, go to History Revealed: Historic Ballparks.
Also watch for a display from the Halsey Hall Chapter at the Brookdale Library. This had been postponed by the pandemic, but it will be set up when the library reopens.

Jim Cox notes that the upcoming April 24 will be the the 120th anniversary of the first game in the history of the American League (as a major league) with Chicago beating Cleveland 8-2. The winning pitcher was Roy Patterson of St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin.
