    Other Upcoming Events:
Fred Souba Hot Stove Saturday Morning
The next Fred Souba Hot Stove Saturday Morning, an informal breakfast gathering for the purpose of talking baseball, will be at 9:00 on Saturday, July 8 at Curran’s, 4201 Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis. This may be the last breakfast at Curran’s, since the next one, September 9, will be at Bunny’s Northeast.

    Book Club
The Halsey Hall Chapter Book Club will meet Saturday, August 5 at 9:30 a.m. at the usual spot, Barnes & Noble in Har Mar Mall in Roseville. The book selection is Storied Stadiums: Baseball’s History Through Its Ballparks by Curt Smith. The group will also discuss the Highlights from the 1959 World Series, produced by Sports History Channel and narrated by Vin Scully. It is available on You Tube: 1959 World Series Highlights

    Fall Chapter Meeting
The Fall Chapter meeting will be Saturday, November 4. Members are invited to submit a proposal to make a research presentation at the meeting (with the understanding they might not know if they’re available until the meeting date is set. Proposals must be sent to Research Committee co-chairs Brenda Himrich or Sarah Johnson and include a title and brief outline of what the presentation will consist of with emphasis on the research that will be included. Standard presentations are 20 minutes (with an additional eight minutes for questions) although the duration may be longer or shorter depending on the needs of the presenter and of the schedule. The Research Committee (which also consists of Dan Levitt, Stew Thornley, Rich Arpi, and Bob Tholkes) will finalize the schedule of research presentations two weeks before the meeting, so proposals must be submitted by then.

    Road Trips
Saturday, July 15: Northwoods League game with the Waterloo Bucks at the Mankato MoonDogs at Franklin Rogers Park. The game is at 6:05 p.m., and Howard Luloff has arranged activities with the MoonDogs, including presentations by broadcaster Charlie Snelson and general-manager Greg Weis starting at 1:00. Meet in the Dog Pound on the third-base side.

Saturday, July 29: Northwoods League game with the Mankato MoonDogs at the Thunder Bay Border Cats. The game is at 6:05 p.m. (and Thunder Bay is on Eastern Time). Contact Stew Thornley, 651-415-0791 if you are interested. We will try to organize carpools (and members are encouraged to contact others and set up their own, if possible) and leave the Twin Cities early that morning. This will leave time for lunch in Duluth or along the North Shore and some sightseeing in Thunder Bay. (You have to see the Sleeping Giant.) The plan is to stay overnight at the Super 8 (807-344-2612—call to arrange your own reservation) in Thunder Bay and return on Sunday. You will need a passport.

    Paean P. S.
From an anonymous contributor, a follow-up to Warren Woods’s paean to Nicollet Park in the June 2017 The Holy Cow!:

Nicollet Park moaned in anticipation. All those men, and not a few women, eager to know her innermost secrets. Why must those cursed ticket takers make them, and her, wait? Her opening lay vacant, beckoning but beyond reach. Would this be like 1932 all over again, or would her desires be satisfied at this final moment? She shuddered. And then, suddenly, it began. Wave after wave of people jostled their way inside her entryway, still narrow even after all those seasons, and she sighed in ecstasy as the pleasure overwhelmed her. And this wasn’t even the first inning; she hoped, no, *knew,* the climax to this series would be different, and one for the record books.
