    Research Roundtable
Research projects, web pages, and blogs of chapter members are highlighted on the home page of Research Committee.

Ed Edmonds is doing on-line presentations along with co-author Lou Schiff on their anthology, Attorneys in the Hall of Fame. Ed recently conducted an exercise with 13 University of St. Thomas students for a baseball arbitration panel. Kris Hard joined Ed as a judge of the panel. Ed, as usual, is tracking potential arbitration cases during the off-season.

    S. Thornley is working on a presentation about Perry Werden for the Frederick Ivor-Campbell 19th Century Base Ball Conference at the Hall of Fame next April. This will focus on Werden’s record-breaking years with the Minneapolis Millers from 1894 to 1896 (with a list of his home runs now on-line at Perry Werden’s Home Runs for Millers, 1894-1896).

Bob Komoroski attended virtually the annual induction ceremony for the Baseball Reliquary.

Howard Luloff is working on the trivia quiz for the April 25 spring chapter meeting.

Steve Ehlers is now doing the quizzes for the Original Old Timers Hot Stove League at its monthly meetings. The quizzes had been done by chapter members Glenn Gostick and Dave Anderson.

Glenn Renick is working on a pictorial history of baseball cards with Jason Schwartz and Mark Armour.

Mike Haupert et al. is working on a banner and fact sheet to promote SABR scholarships at the annual conference of the Minnesota Council for the Social Studies in February.

The next Research Committee meetings, via Zoom, will be December 15 and January 19 at 7:00 p.m.

    Art Mugalian Orates a Quiz
Here is the quiz from the November Research Committee meeting from Art Mugalian.

    1. This Hall of Famer was the 1949 AL batting champ and played his entire career in the American League, mostly at the hot corner. A 10-time all-star, he struck out just 287 times in 15 years.
    2. This Canadian native played his entire career in Cleveland. He led the league in doubles in 1916 and twice topped his league in walks. He was the first batter to face Babe Ruth in an MLB game. He was Ray Chapman's roommate.
    3. This Hall of Famer played four decades in the majors and took home 16 straight Gold Gloves. He finally won a World Series ring the year before retirement. His nickname went well with his surname.
    4. Another HOFer, this guy won five Gold Gloves. He finished fourth in rookie of the year balloting to Frank Howard. He led his league in walks five times and was the first player to invoke the 5-and-10 rule.
    5. The only HOFer born in New Mexico, this man led his league in home runs seven years in a row. He was once involved in a trade with Joe Garagiola.
    6. This two-time World Series champ was born in the city where he played his entire ML career. His home run was the only run off Mickey Lolich in an epic game 7. He died from Covid in October 2020.
    7. This pitcher tossed two complete-game wins in his only World Series but lost out on the MVP to Roberto Clemente. His career was derailed by a condition that was subsequently named for him.
    8. This HOFer set a pitching record that was broken by another Dodger 20 years later. He hit 29 homers in a 14-year career and once threw six shutouts in a row. He went to high school with Robert Redford.
    9. This HOFer won 237 games in a 21-year career. Nicknamed "the schoolboy wonder," he was a three-time World Series champ. Upon his retirement he and another Hall of Fame pitcher had recorded more WS victories than any other pitcher. In the off-season he worked as an undertaker.
    10. Born in Milwaukee, this 1957 AL rookie of the year hit two homers with four RBI in the first World Series game played in his home town. Three years later he was involved in a bad-hop base hit that helped turn Game 7 of another WS.
